GREATEST AMERICAN DOG REVIEW

Of course, we are fans of Laura and Preston.  Preston is a purebred Pomeranian but we are trying not to hold that against him.  He is as close to a chihuahua as is in the competition and is having to hold the torch for all small dogs.

This just in: with the revelation that Greatest American Dog (8 p.m. on CBS, E!) — which sees a dozen canines and their obnoxious owners playing musical doggie chairs and riding skateboards for a $250,000 cash prize — ranked as the sixth most popular show on prime time last week, American culture has bottomed out once again. NEW YORK (AP) – CBS got a paw up on its competition with the debut of “Greatest American Dog” helping the network to a midsummer ratings victory.

The new competition was the sixth-most popular show on prime-time television last week, with 9.5 million viewers, Nielsen Media Research reported Tuesday. There was no measurement of canine interest.

SNAP JUDGEMENT: CBS’ “GREATEST AMERICAN DOG”
Entertainment Weekly, Popwatch: Blog

July 11, 2008

This week, working in groups of four (or eight), the owners had to come up with a skit that would showcase their dogs’ basic skills (e.g. sit, play dead, pirouette, skateboard). Some rose to the challenge — like film producer Laura and her mohawk-rockin’ Pomeranian, Preston, from Team Aloha, which did an Hawaiian theme.

As for my early favorites, I’d say they are Preston and Tillman. (Tillman won me over when he refused to keep playing musical chairs; Preston’s owner, Laura, got me when she brought David and his beloved Parson Russell Terrier, Elvis, some blankets in the Dog House.)

THE GREATEST AMERICAN DOG IS TOPS
Reality TV Magazine

-Christine Navratil
July 11, 2008

The premiere of Greatest American Dog  was a bigger hit than even CBS hoped it would be.  Not only did humans love it, but their masters….errrr pets….seemed to love it too.

The premiere on Thursday night did something that very few shows do, it won its’ time slot blowing away the competition on all the other networks.

Because of the success it saw CBS has decided to rebroadcast the premiere episode on Saturday, July 12th, so that everyone who may have missed it (like myself) and want to see it can catch it before the next great episode airs next Thursday, July 17.

Columbia Spectator favors Laura and Preston!

ONLY THE UNDERDOG CAN KEEP THIS FURRY REALITY AFLOAT
Columbia Spectator: Online Edition

Dear CBS: please don’t vote Tillman off the island. The skateboarding English Bulldog is practically the only thing that’ll salvage ratings for Greatest American Dog. Your latest reality show gimmick is like any other—bring a dozen strangers together and let them duke it out for the 250k. The difference here is that you’ve allowed the members of this drama-laden cast to bring their best friends, and being of the canine variety, these loveable pooches are hailed as the stars of the show.

But really, CBS, Tillman should get top dog billing. Your cameras love him, and I know I’m not the only one who couldn’t resist his laborious efforts to get onto the block during doggie musical chairs. Sure, some of the other contestants are OK—in fact, I’ve taken a particular liking to Laura and Preston, her purebred Pomeranian who understands over 100 words and phrases. And Star, a purebred Brittany, is also endearing. He’s helped owner Bill deal with his wife’s diabetes, and the senior and his playful pup seem to be having a genuinely good time on the show. But the rest of them—they’re just in it for their own 15 minutes of fame much like any other blue-blooded reality show contestant.

Laura is totally my favorite so far - Zap2it.com

-Liz Pardue, Zap2it.com

“Brace yourselves, because what I’m about to say might come as a bit of a shock: Greatest American Dog is, without a doubt, the greatest reality show of all time.

Laura and her hot pink mohawk-wearing Pomeranian Preston. Okay, I know that sounds awful, but it’s seriously incredible cute and awesome. Trust me. Oh, and incidentally, Laura is totally my favorite so far.

Laura, continuing her streak of not sucking, organizes extra food and blankets for him (David), plus his luggage.

Finally, Laura has Preston play around with a beach ball and give her a high five. It’s super cute, and the judges like how she interacts with Preston. Yay, Laura!”
