Laura & Preston take on the Amazing New York Race
NEW YORK, NY (September 15, 2008)—The Amazing New York Race, an urban scavenger hunt modeled after the popular CBS television reality TV program, will unveil its first-ever dog friendly version this Sunday, September 21 to be held in Brooklyn’s McCarren Park.
For the last xxxx years, some xxxx Amazing New York Race entrants have chased through city streets, searched for clues, navigated obstacle courses, and completed other tasks—all in the name of fun and competition. In lieu of racing around the world, participants cruise through the New York City boroughs and use the subway and their feet as a means to victory. Now, competitors and their canine partners will take part in a new offering of the Amazing New York Race staged exclusively in Brooklyn’s McCarren Park. Teams will be comprised of a minimum of two dogs and two individuals. The race is open to individuals and dogs of all ages and abilities. And, single entrants (one human and dog) are welcome to participate and will be matched with an appropriate partner on site.
Mary Catanzaro, head of production firm POGO Events and organizer of the Amazing New York Race, discussed the reason behind the expansion: “Given our commitment to providing entrants an exhilarating and engaging experience that celebrates everything about New York City, it only made sense to incorporate humans and their four-legged friends.” “In addition to the thrill of participating, entrants compete for prizes, and contribute to a good cause as a portion of the race’s $30 (USD) entry fee goes toward Brooklyn’s Animal Care Center & Control,” she added. The winning team will receive a trio of coveted items that are certain to appeal to both human and canine.
Catanzaro estimates that dogs and residents of all boroughs will take part. Renowned canine Preston, a howl raiser from this summer’s hit TV program, “The Greatest American Dog,” and owner Laura Nativo plan to travel from Los Angeles, CA to participate in the race. On a par with former races, the Amazing New York Dog Race will ask participants to compete rigorous tasks and endeavors including dog-related Q&As, obstacle courses and other fun activities; however to level the playing field, the competition will be confined exclusively to McCarren Park in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Food, water and rest areas will be available to participants at any time during the race, and animal behaviorists will be on site to offer support and advice as needed. All entrants will receive a specially created goody bag for participating and at the race’s conclusion; participants will have the chance to unwind at the dog-friendly Ale House.
Event sponsors include the Brooklyn Dog House, Top Dog Shop.com, So Fetch, Top Dog, Must Luv Dogs, and Modern Dog Magazine.
